Style Guide
Color is personal. What looks stunning on one woman can feel flat or off on another — not because the wig is wrong, but because the shade does not align with her skin's undertones. Understanding this takes the guesswork out of choosing entirely.

Skin tone — fair, medium, deep — describes the surface of your skin. Undertone describes the warmth beneath it. Undertone is the variable that actually determines which hair colors look natural and which ones do not.
Two women with the same surface skin tone but different undertones will look best in different shades. Matching to skin tone alone is the most common mistake buyers make. Matching to undertone is what produces results that look intentional.
There are three undertones:
Golden, peachy, or yellow beneath the surface. Warm undertones are enhanced by shades with depth and richness — Natural Black, Dark Brown, and Honey Blonde (27) tend to look particularly luminous against warm-toned complexions.
Pink, red, or bluish beneath the surface. Cool undertones align naturally with deeper, richer shades. Natural Black photographs particularly well against cool complexions because of the contrast between the color's depth and the skin's clarity.
A balance of warm and cool with no single tone dominating. Neutral undertones are the most versatile — most shades work well, and Natural Black in particular adapts cleanly without pulling in either direction.
Three simple methods you can use at home, each taking under a minute:
Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in natural light. Green or olive veins indicate a warm undertone. Blue or purple veins indicate a cool undertone. A mix of both suggests neutral.
Gold jewelry tends to complement warm undertones. Silver tends to complement cool undertones. If both look equally good on you, your undertone is likely neutral.
Hold a bright white fabric next to your face, then an off-white or cream. If bright white makes your face look fresher and more even, your undertone is likely cool. If cream or ivory is more flattering, your undertone is warm.
AA WIGS Tip: Natural lighting is the truest test of any color against your skin. Take a photo outside in daylight before making a final decision — artificial lighting shifts the way both skin and hair color read.

Natural Black — the primary shade of the AA WIGS Signature Piece — is one of the most universally wearable shades in hair because of its depth and neutrality. It still interacts differently depending on undertone, but that interaction is almost always flattering.
Natural Black is the shade that most closely resembles unprocessed human hair. It does not require styling to look intentional — it reads as deliberate from the moment it is installed. This is why it is consistently our most worn shade across every skin tone and undertone.
With a 13×6 Swiss HD Lace frontal, the lace is thin enough to blend into virtually every skin tone without requiring powder, tinting, or makeup to disappear. Unlike thicker lace that can appear as a visible strip at the hairline, Swiss HD Lace mimics the look of hair growing directly from the scalp.
This means the color of the wig does not have to compensate for a visible lace line. The lace disappears on its own, leaving only the hair color to interact with your complexion. The result is that your undertone and the wig color are the only variables that matter.
If you are considering the AA WIGS signature piece but unsure whether Natural Black is the right fit for your complexion, ask yourself: does Natural Black hair look natural on women with a similar complexion to mine?
Natural Black is worn across every skin tone and undertone because it is the closest shade to natural, unprocessed human hair. It requires no additional effort to look deliberate. When in doubt, Natural Black is always a considered and safe starting point.
Undertone is the warmth beneath your skin's surface — warm, cool, or neutral. It is the variable that determines which shades look natural against your complexion, independent of how dark or light your surface skin tone is. Matching to undertone rather than surface tone is what produces results that look intentional.
The three most reliable methods are the vein test (green/olive = warm, blue/purple = cool), the jewelry test (gold = warm, silver = cool, both = neutral), and the fabric test (bright white flatters cool undertones, cream or ivory flatters warm ones). Natural lighting gives the most accurate result for all three tests.
Yes. Natural Black is one of the most universally flattering shades because it is close to natural unprocessed hair color and has enough depth to interact well across warm, cool, and neutral undertones. It does not require styling to look natural — it appears deliberate from the moment of installation.
With Swiss HD Lace, the lace is virtually invisible against all skin tones without additional customization. It blends on its own — meaning the wig color and your undertone are the only variables that matter for how the piece reads against your complexion.
